Relevant legislation


The principal act governing the activities of the Garda Ombudsman is the Garda Síochána Act 2005, by which the organisation was established. It was amended by two different acts in 2015:

  • Garda Síochána (Amendment) Act 2015
  • Garda Síochána (Policing Authority and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2015
